How to get to research ?
Command > Science > Research
 
There are 3 types of research:-
 
1. Infrastructure
This is where you improve your infrastructure. Each level of infrastructure technology will improve efficiency by 10% !
 
2. Minerals
This only appears when you have new and unknown minerals to research on. New technology may appear once you have research the required minerals. This is only required in spacefed unification. 
 
3. Technology tree
This is where you research all new technology, such as ship hull (class), ship types, planetary upgrades and alien technology.
